RUBIS ÉNERGIE AND KENYA AIRWAYS PARTNER TO DEVELOP AFRICA’S FIRST REFINERY SPECIALISING IN SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL
On 10 May 2026, during the Africa Forward Summit, Rubis Energy Kenya -a wholly-owned subsidiary of Rubis Énergie, itself part of the Rubis Group- and Kenya Airways signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) refinery in Nairobi, Kenya.
Under this project, a modular refinery will be developed in Nairobi in partnership with Dragonfly, the technology provider. The facility, which could be operational within the next two years, will produce SAF from local feedstocks, including used cooking oil, residual animal fats, and other vegetable oils. The expected annual production capacity is estimated at 32,000 tonnes.
This initiative aligns with the Rubis Group’s diversification strategy and illustrates its ability -through its local presence and logistical expertise- to develop tailored energy solutions to address the specific needs of the regions in which it operates.
